Author Topic: change of posting editor  (Read 523 times)

Because there seems to be a few bugs cropping up with the full WYSIWYG posting editor, I've switched everybody to the standard one. This resolves all issues regarding text size, quoting and duplicating code when editing. The only difference between the two editors, is that the standard one gives you the code, rather than showing it as it would appear.
So if I was to type something in large fonts like this
Code: [Select]
[size=18pt]It would look like this as I type it[/size]
And smilies change from showing like this  O0 , :))>:( , :-* , :'( > , :D
To looking like this as you click them
Code: [Select]
O0 , :)) ,  >:( , :-* , :'( > , :D

The standard posting editor is now default for existing and new members as they come in ;)

I know how you feel, Si. One of my first "asks" was to increase the post size so I could do bigger blogs  ;)

Chris, I hadn't realised there was a non-wysiwyg mode, thanks for pointing it out  :)

My blogs look quite interesting when I click "Modify". I think I'll be able to drop the raw html into the editor now - and optionally copy it into notepad for study if needed. Time for a test....

Raw html doesn't work, because it is a security risk, as is the flash BBcode ;) But all other BBcode will work, which is the web standard for 95% of all forums on the web ;)
A rough guide to BBcode can be found here http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Alphabetical_list_of_all_bulletin_board_codes

Si, we had issues with the WYSIWYG editor a while back, where it wasn't quoting correctly, as well as a few other little bugs. I thought I'd set it so all new members went to the default standard editor, but obviously I'd not.
For those who still prefer the WYSIWYG editor, even with the bugs in it, you can revert back by going to Profile/Modify Profile/ Look and Layout, and ticking the "Show WYSIWYG editor on post page by default." box ;-)
