Sadly last night (early hours) and all through this morning, the forum and one other website I host, were being attacked by some lowlife scumbag, meaning we had to shut the domains down, in order to stop the attack. As you can see, we are now back up and running again, but this time we also have double protection, which prevents this happening again. In with this protection, is also a full cache service, meaning speed should be increased, and server down time kept to a minimum ;)

I'd also like to add that the attack was very targeted, and we are investigating it's source, and will involve the police if needs be. But lets hope the police get hold of them before I do

I just think that whomever did it is someone known to us as its too convenient that they targetted Jayne's site and this forum. I think whoever they are they are lower than whale shit and I really do fear for them if Chris and Jayne get to them. Hope you find out who the piece of crap is that did it and afford according punishment.

I also want to say thank you for working so damned hard to bring Jayne's site and the forum back online and I hope that the attack hasnt hurt Jayne's site.
Please dont hold back.Im here to learn and to learn you have to listen to the mistakes you have made,so tell me!

Tweaked a few settings for the cache and firewall, which should help with the "cloudflare cache " page showing up ;)

I'm using google chrome and managed to get here, obviously. Sorry to hear there's been some bother, hope it's sorted and they catch the ****. Though I don't come on often I do enjoy when I do, if you see what I mean.    :)

We are currently live, but in a state of testing. This is mainly to monitor for an attack, and to isolate our site, from the rest of the server. So we may go off again, depending on if the source can be isolated.  ;)

 It may take a little while to settle down, as the forum has been bounced all over the place over the last 2 days, in order to try navigate round the server attacks. Good news is, that so far, we are looking good. This could change at the blink of an eye, but I have a cunning plan......

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to his country for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.'

It's taken a lot of coffee and no sleep to get things stable, both at my end, and the hosting company. Most hosts would drop you like a lead balloon when this kind of thing happens, but the guys I'm with are VERY good, and have put some serious work in to isolating and tracking the situation. We are currently isolated from the rest of the server, giving them a few more diagnostic tools should it happen again tonight ;)

Flippin 'eck Chris all sounds very dodgy - do you have any idea what the tosser was trying to do to the site and Jaynes as well????? I'm not very computery minded and wonder why people would access sites like this, what would they achieve????
I'm glad you have managed to get the site working and thanks very much for all your hard work in getting it going again.

They don't actually access the site, as in like a hacking attempt. All they do is repeatedly send tens of thousands of data packets, or in this case send tens of thousands of requests for none existent files, which then floods the server with traffic, grinding it to a halt. A simple way of explaining what happens, is this. Imagine trying to open and play say a 1000 HD video files on your PC, all at the same time. Your machine would slow down so much, you wouldn't be able to do anything else. This is what happens to a server, when an attack is ongoing ;) So the sites just don't load, because the server can't handle the volume of traffic being thrown at it ;-)

Oh right I see - what a strange thing to do. I suppose it causes maximum disruption and stops people getting access to the site. Seems like a very childish thing to do, you would imagine that it would be somebody who had a personal reason to do this as opposed to a random unknown idiot.
Nowt as queer as folk I guess.

People do do these things randomly, which is rather bizarre. But in this case it was a deliberate act, and seems to be some kind of personal thing. I guess we will see what happens tonight, and if another attack is launched. ;)

 Been adjusting the new DNS proxy cache settings, meaning things should speed up quite nicely over the next day or so, as the cache is built ;)
Fingers crossed, we have everything under control now ;)

Just got worried about this.   Suddenly couldn't get the forum.   Then found I couldn't get anything else either.

Rebooted the router and it's fine now.
