Author Topic: How we moderate and run this site  (Read 826 times)

This is really just an introduction and history for those who have come from MFP. This site originally was a small group of friends, who met on a forum run by @richardthesane. I kind of took over the running of it back in 2006-7, and over the years it has grown in to what you see today. Moderation wise, we have hardly had anything that needed moderation, but when it has been, it is always done fairly. We are not in the habit of deleting posts, unless they are genuinely offensive. If people have disagreements, which in large groups it will always happen, they are simply asked to sort it out amongst themselves via "Private message".
If anything is ever deleted, it is always stated why, so there are no speculations or further disagreements about why something was removed. But as I've said, this has only happened a couple of times in the last 8 years or so, because we try not to get involved in personal disagreements.

Hopefully, we can keep this good record, by simply asking that if people wish to disagree, or agree to disagree etc etc, they do it via personal message  ;D Also note that neither myself as admin, or any of the moderators can read peoples private messages. They are encrypted on a database, and are unreadable. The only exception to this, is if a private message is reported as offensive, and a copy of the text is sent to myself, in the report  ;)

Site wise, any and all feedback is welcome. If there is something you think the forum needs, or something you think is useless, feel free to say so. This site has developed over the years, because of what people have asked for.
Finally, I'm sure I can speak for all the original and long standing members, when I say that we welcome all the MFP users that have come over O0 O0 O0

I just thought it would be good to get all this out in the open now, because I know MFP had a very poor record for moderation, and post/topics just vanishing without explanation  ;D ;)

Hear, hear.
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to his country for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.'

Sending a private message is a good idea, just as long as you send it to the right person.
I sent a private message to George, saying that this system was good extra.....
.....and then sent it to Ray!  ::)
Luckily there was nothing untoward in it!
