Went down to Netley on Southampton Water yesterday - 3rd May - to watch the 3 Cunard liners/cruise ships leave together. Part of Cunard's 175th anniversary.

I love photos from these big ships..  :)

The Queen Elizabeth will be in Hamburg harbour this Friday for the annual harbour festival. She will be the largest ship during the event.

I bet the people on board will be puzzled to be suddenly changing from the quiet live on board into a mass event with 400.000 visitors (every day for 3 days)..  :)) :))

The big stars for this festival will again be the last big sailing ships. Hopefully we get the right weather for the parades running into and out of port - a bit of wind for the sails and sunshine for the photographers  :)) :))

Great shots Mike of those beautiful ships. Thanks for sharing.

@Uwe sounds like you're in for three fantastic days. I hope the weather is kind to you and you take lots of pics for a blog.    :)

Hi Kathy,

if you have nothing better to do have a look here just to see how big the festival will be

Hafengeburtstag

With 6 big cruise ships alone this will certainly be an event  :))

Not often you can see all three together - pity the sun didn't shine a bit more!

Glad it prompted you.  In Southampton we don't like Liverpool trying to steal our cruise ships  :))

:o Cunard's ships started sailing from Liverpool in 1840, Southampton stole them from Liverpool post WW1.  ;)

The council is certainly trying and to a certain extent would make sense for people living up North.
The complaint down here is that Liverpool used EU money to build the cruise terminal but Southampton was all privately funded.

Super set of shots Carl. Good detail and colours. It must have been a spectacle not to have missed.

Thanks M and M, it was cold and grey until 15 minutes before the Red Arrows were due, then the sun came out. An amazing spectacle that I shan't  see again. Well worth the wait.

Thanks for the Youtube link ....I've just finished watching the whole thing ... a spectacular 90 minute advert for Cunard !

Just a pity the commentary team hadn't put in as much practice as the Local Pilots, the Ships Captains and the Ships Crews obviously did ...... I was tempted to mute the sound but didn't want to miss the whistle sounds and all the noise that was going on in the background!

What a fantastic exercise in close manoeuvring in such a confined and hazardous environment ...could we see this being promoted as an Olympic event ?  :))

Really impressive photos.
The 3 together must have been a majestic view  :)

You only get a good impression of how impressive these ships are when you get closer to them. I like the shot where you can clearly see the people on the front deck. It gives a beautiful idea of the proportions and the background is the icing on the cake  :))
